Abeokuta — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has raised serious questions over his omission from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of candidates released on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Adebutu noted that while all other PDP candidates for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and senatorial seats appeared on the published lists, he and his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, were conspicuously absent.
“The circumstances surrounding my exclusion raise serious questions,” Adebutu said. He affirmed that his documentation was submitted to INEC within the required timeframe and that he remains a duly registered member of the party. He vowed to pursue the matter through the appropriate channels to ensure due process is followed.
INEC’s final list for Ogun State, signed by Commission Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains the names of 13 governorship candidates and their running mates. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi), and his running mate were included, along with candidates from several other parties.
The omission leaves the PDP without a listed governorship candidate in the state for the February 2027 election unless the issue is resolved. Questions have been raised in some quarters about Adebutu’s name appearing on the party’s membership register submitted to INEC, though the Ogun PDP has previously insisted he is a valid and registered member.
Adebutu’s statement comes as political parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 governorship and state assembly elections.
